Something that we have loved the most about living in DC is the convenience of escaping the bustling city life. The district is so packed that it is sometimes overwhelming, but it is small enough to allow for day trips outside of the city and even the suburbs. An hour away into Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia are small towns that are seemingly untouched by the city life. So we decided to take a trip with a group of our friends to Harpers Ferry in West Virginia. Cool side note: You drive through three states within a few minutes to get there (Maryland > Virginia > West Virginia).
The town was quaint and the Blacksmith was brusque. We met the mayor unknowingly who confirmed our suspicions about the blacksmith, referring to him as a "cantankerous bastard." The only eateries were three cafes and a million ice cream stands and bakeries, which as we all know, is what heaven will be like. Park rangers reenacted what life was like during the Civil War Era as they pressed apples into cider and reconstituted dry apples to make apple pie.
The crisp air was perfection. It was the perfect getaway.
I loved spending my weekend with these hooligans.
